2019年11月18日（月）、 Technical Advisor として新たに SmartNews に加わった President of DeepQ であり Stanford 大学兼任教授の Edward Changの来日に合わせ、Machine Learning on Big and Small Data をテーマにした SmartNews Tech Talk Night を開催します。

We are thrilled to introduce Professor Edward Chang, our new Technical Advisor at SmartNews (also serving as an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University). Having Edward in Tokyo, SmartNews is organizing a tech talk "Machine Learning on Big and Small Data" on 18h November 2019. You will also have the chance to network with our machine learning team at SmartNews!

Professor Chang will share his experience in the area of Artificial Intelligence in both academia and industry from when he completed his PhD at Stanford University in 1999 to now at SmartNews. His diverse experience includes University of California and Stanford (academia), and Google and HTC Healthcare (industry). From his experience, he draws "Principles of Innovation", which is demonstrated via elementary-school geometry.

Edward Chang / Technical Advisor / SmartNews

Edward Chang has acted as the President of AI Research and Healthcare (DeepQ) at HTC since 2012. He also currently serves as an adjunct professor at Stanford University. His most recent notable work is co-leading the DeepQ project to win the XPRIZE medical IoT contest in 2017 with a 1M USD prize. Prior to his current posts, Ed was a director of Google Research from 2006 to 2012, leading research and development in areas including scalable machine learning, indoor localization, and Google Q&A. His contributions in data-driven machine learning (US patents 8798375 and 9547914) and his ImageNet sponsorship helped fuel the success of AlexNet and the recent resurgence of AI. His developed open-source codes in parallel SVMs, parallel LDA, parallel spectral clustering, and parallel frequent itemset mining (adopted by Berkeley Spark) have been collectively downloaded over 30,000 times. Prior to Google, Ed was a full professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He joined UCSB in 1999 after receiving his PhD from Stanford University. Ed is an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to scalable machine learning.

Youlin Li / VP of Engineering / SmartNews

Youlin has more than 15 years of experience in highly scalable systems, AI infrastructures and applied machine learning. In the past few years, he was responsible for leading News Feed Infrastructure at Facebook, Inc., where he led efforts to build Facebook’s News Feed backend system and AI infra. Youlin joined SmartNews as Vice President of Engineering, responsible for evolving SmartNews’s technological base to meet the highest global standards of scalability, efficiency, productivity and advanced machine learning.
